I am a Professor of Human Geography and Cultural Studies at the University of Edinburgh. I moved to Edinburgh in 2013 after a decade working at the University of Canterbury in Aoteaora New Zealand. My work spans cultural geography, development studies and media studies and I do most of my research in Nicaragua.

I am the author of Latin American Development (Routledge 2013), the co-author of Communications/Media/Geographies (Routledge 2017) and Shifting Nicaraguan Mediascapes: Authoritarianism and the Struggle for Social Justice (Springer, 2018) and the co-editor of Mediated Geographies and Geographies of Media (Springer 2015), Unsettling Eurocentrism in the Westernized University (Routledge 2018), The Handbook of Latin American  Development (Routledge 2019).
